What permits and certificates are required for Net Billing?

18.12.2024

To install a Net Billing system in Cyprus, several permits and certifications are needed to ensure the compliance of the equipment and the safety of its connection to the grid. Here are the main permits and certifications typically required:

Installation Permit from the Local Energy Company: The first step involves submitting an application to the local energy company (e.g., Cyprus Electricity Authority) to obtain a permit for installing a photovoltaic system. This application should include details about the system’s capacity, equipment type, and installation location.

Equipment Certification: Solar panels and inverters must be certified according to international standards, such as IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) for panels and inverters, or UL (Underwriters Laboratories). This ensures that the equipment meets safety and quality standards.

Construction Permit (if required): If a large photovoltaic system is planned, a construction permit from local authorities may be necessary, particularly if the solar panels are to be installed on the ground rather than on a rooftop. This depends on regional building regulations.

Electrical Connection Certificate: After the system is installed, a certified electrician must issue an electrical certificate that confirms the proper connection of the system to the electrical grid. This certificate usually needs to be submitted to the energy company.

Compliance Certificate with Local Regulations and Standards: Some countries may require system certification from local authorities to confirm compliance with local electrical safety and environmental standards. In Cyprus, international standards are generally accepted, but checking local requirements is advisable.

Net Billing Agreement with the Energy Provider: Once all permits and certifications are obtained, an agreement must be signed with the energy provider for connecting the system to Net Billing. This agreement outlines the terms for feeding energy into the grid and billing.

Technical Inspection and Testing: Before the system is connected to the grid, the energy company may conduct a technical inspection and testing to ensure the safe operation of the system and its compliance with technical requirements.

The process may include additional steps depending on the type of system installed and local regulations.
